Here I go...

Today the apartment officially is in our ownership. Today our electricity was turned on. Today we became the proud owners of a couch, and a chair, and a table. Today all of my boxes are packed up and waiting. Tomorrow Sweaters and Flower Child move into the apartment. Tomorrow they start putting things in order on that end. Tomorrow I pack up my stuff into the van. And the day after we'll have internet. And I'll own my own bed. And I'll be settling into my apartment. And the great Grad School adventure will begin. So here's to Millie, and Jo, and Eileen and Ruth, and all of the other  theatrical women who took their leap from home to pursue something. It's time to join them.

...a serious expression in the middle of July.

July is trucking along faster than might be expected and my move date of July 28th is coming up soon. In the meantime, I'm mostly focusing on getting in visits with friends before I go, but there is some very serious adulting that has to happen in order to make sure moving can happen. So, here's a list of the adulting accomplishments for this week. 1. Our renters agreement is now signed. I know that they last looked for lead pain 10 years ago, that I'm not allowed to own a grill, and that bedbugs are a serious danger to consider when purchasing used furniture. I am signed in for a year long contract. 2. I have an electric account. There is now a way for me to have electricity and it will be turned on in my apartment two days before I move, so I won't be sitting in the dark. 3. I have renters' insurance. I am now insured and I actually shopped around and found a good deal through a trusted company. Which is very exciting. 4. I tried a new restaurant yesterday...

I like to be in America...

Happy July 5th! Yesterday I did my part in celebrating our country by drinking a lot of hard soda and watching my siblings set things on fire. Today, I continue my work by presenting you with a list of musicals about the US and its history. A day to late, and yet never to late. I learned a lot while looking into this and will present you with a song for each one. I hope you enjoy!  1492 Up To Date 1492 Up To Date was debuted on Broadway in 1893. It's a burlesque show about Christopher Columbus with nearly 0% historical accuracy. It was written by Carl Pflueger and R. A. Barnet. While largely unknown, I was able to find this little snippet of the music. Sounds pretty patriotic to me.  1600 Pennsylvania Avenue  This musical hit Broadway in 1976. It was written by Leonard Bernstein and Alan Jay Lerner and is known for being a phenomenal flop, closing after seven performances. This musical follows 100 years of White House history with one man playing all of t...

How do you measure, measure a year?

Big news everyone, as of last week, my blog has been up and running for one year! It doesn't feel like a year, but apparently it is. I have done about 13 few posts than I aimed to do in a year, but you know, I'm still pretty proud of the 35 I did. So let's start with a quick recap of things that happened this year. 1. I started adultier adulting, including have an apartment for the first time! 2. I applied to grad school to study dramaturgy. 3. I took super cool classes on Shakespeare and August Wilson. 4. I went to InterVarsity Leadership Institute and had a life changing experience. 5. I celebrated my best friend's 21st birthday. 6. I learned that, no matter how organized I might be, I will still have days that go wrong. 7. I was rejected by Yale, but accepted by Ohio State. 8. I played Dogsborough in Arturo Ui and Kathy/Bev in Clybourne Park. 9. I made it through my senior year of college and graduated. 10. I became addicted to caffeine. 11. I stag...
